“By the exploration of profound ideas we develop a greater consciousness, a better understanding of ourselves/others alongside a deeper connection between God’s divine matrix and the human heart.”

Thomas Edison once stated, “Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.”

An honorable truth, but in order to actually realize an inspiration, what exactly should one spend one’s time “perspiring” about?

Many smart people have done the “perspiring part,” worked hard – really hard – to manifest their dreams… only to fail miserably. So, what’s missing?

The right time? The right place? Luck? Resources?
We’ve all heard this laundry list of explanations and excuses before.

So, what’s the REAL Secret? It’s NOT What You’ve Been Told!

Do you see the glass as half-empty or as half-full? Which do you think is better? An “optimist” tends to be overconfident and often gets blindsided, while a “pessimist” tends to be under-confident and is often unable to move ahead.

I practice and teach a mind tool known as “Equilibrated Thinking.”

“Equilibrated Thinking” lets us see the glass as BOTH half-empty AND half-full AT THE SAME TIME. By combining two different mindsets, it gives our thinking expanded CLARITY.

Could mastering Equilibrated Thinking be where you and I should be putting our precious “perspiration“?

Life has a way of “kicking our butt” unless we get out of our own way. Yet, sometimes that “kick” is what we need for the genius that is in each of us to finally be heard. By balancing the emotional “charges” that drive us – by celebrating both our negatives and positives - we open our hearts to our full aliveness and become the creative, radiant beings we were meant to be.

Earthquakes, tsunamis, nuclear meltdown, the overthrow of the Egyptian Government, Libya’s revolution, the test’s to humanity are reaching epoch proportion…

But take a step back for a minute, and let’s take it a little deeper.

As millions of people are suffering and dying, the best of humanity has come together to unite in the effort.

But the greatest threat to our civilization right now, is not the devastation from natural disaster. Our greatest threat is not even from tyrannical governments. Ironically, pathetically, the greatest threat to humanity is in many of your pockets. The greatest threat to humanity is in a disturbance of a completely man-made system. Money is the commonality between us all.

Imagine for a moment that you escaped the earthquake, that you avoided the explosion and the radiation, that you didn’t get caught in the crossfire of the revolution and you came home to a house with no food. You take your wallet to the grocery store to pick up some food. Just before you get to the store, you see on the news, the economy has collapsed. Your money is worthless, your credit cards worthless…You and your family, are caught in a city of a million people, and the food’s ran out. The farmers can’t pay for electric or labor, the truckers have no gas to ship products, the stores can’t pay their employees, and there is no food left.

Imagine… millions of people standing around one another, the collapse of the economy collapsed what?

Can people still work? Yes

Can people still produce products? Yes

Can people still ship products and serve one another? Yes

So what’s the real problem?

The real problem is the tracking of what is owned, and an agreed measure of exchange with one another…

What is it we fear? Rioting, looting, chaos, anarchy…

What we fear is our own humanity. What we fear is how attached we are to our “things”. What we fear is our inability to sit down as a society, communicate, serve one another and rebuild as rational human beings would…

Our pulling together through terrorist attacks, earthquakes and tsunamis has revealed the very best in human nature…

Hopefully it takes a lot more than our attachment to imaginary paper currency to show the very worst.Hopefully we can turn a communication breakdown into actual communication.

You have got to give a hand to the creative genius behind FCC branding…..’Net Neutrality‘ sounds like such a beautiful term.

In the name of justice we come and regulate lawfully, in case something MIGHT happen. FCC chairman, Mr Genachowski, did regurgitate in his eleven-minute speech a great load that personally, I think he’s “innocent” enough to actually believe.

Do you personally believe the FCC gives a crap about you getting “fair” access to information?
In that case why not regulate SEO? I mean it’s an unfair advantage that Major corporations get their listings way in the top rankings.
Try to find item number 6, 673,345 in a Google ranking.
Is that neutral?

Like EVERY other industry on the planet, ad few companies will lead and some smaller companies will get business.
The WEB won’t be any different. That’s life. You want to change it? GO into business, compete, do a better job, and people will prefer your service..

Wake up! This is all about the FCC wanting – and can’t standing – that it has so little CONTROL over what goes out on the Internet.
Regulate. Control….It’s driving them NUTS….
Wake up people…… Wake up……..

The government is doing such a wonderful job “regulating” social security, the budget, the housing market, and Banks. Let’s give them some more….
We’re about to experience another government mess.

Another “Thank God…” experience to come. People please WTFUP.

So why do SO few companies ever develop into a Brand? Is it management, infrastructure, accounting/financing, the business model, product development, marketing, sales, leadership, risk management, innovation, branding, policies...? In truth, VERY few companies do ALL of these well. They will usually excel at one, maybe two..... Why do you suppose that is?

The odds of conceiving an idea and turning that idea into a lucrative business, that lasts over a decade, is less that 1%..

This statistic is both scary and exciting…
Is it wise for an Entrepreneur to take this number seriously?
You bet your ass it is…

Proceeding with caution is NOT the same as discouragement…It is simply proceeding with wisdom.

So why do SO few companies ever develop into a Brand?
Is it management, infrastructure, accounting/financing, the business model, product development, marketing, sales, leadership, risk management, innovation, branding, policies...?

In truth, VERY few companies do ALL of these well. They will usually excel at one, maybe two….. Why do you suppose that is?

“The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.” -Albert Einstein

The reason why many companies fail is because the person who has the idea, DOES NOT HAVE ALL THE KNOW-HOW OR THE TOOLS TO MANIFEST THAT IDEA INTO A PROFITABLE COMPANY.

If you have a genius idea, read and reread the above statement until you KNOW IT.

Most of the time the CREATOR of an idea has personally accessed few of the skills that are necessary to manifest an idea.

What is most important is for the creator to KNOW is they can manifest their idea with certainty and, with the same certainty, KNOW they are a student discovering the most efficient method of manifesting it…

It is the level of thinking that will determine the destiny of a brand. That level of thinking is influenced every day. It is influenced by your customers, your lack of customers, your outsourcing, your in-sourcing, yourself, and a plethora of others who touch the life [yes, the LIFE] of your company…

So what does “level of thinking” refer to?

There are so many factors that go into the “level” of thinking..

Thinking in terms of Company and Profit

Think in terms of brand

Think in terms of customers

People and Processes.

(Thousands of factors go into mastering both.)

Managing either with mastery is a lifetime of practice..

A brand grows as the creator ALLOWS it grow..
Yes there are thousands of items that will need to be addressed.
It will be work, a lot of work, but possible…
You can make it a lot more probable by
Listening/practicing and living by Mr. Einstein’s words of wisdom,

“The significant problems we have cannot be solved at the same level of thinking with which we created them.” – Albert Einstein

Survey shows that American college kids have 40% less compassion and empathy compared to American college kids ten years ago.

http://umichisr.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_bCvraMmZBCcov52&SVID

Above were the questions that were asked now and a generation ago to college students.

I pulled this story because today I heard a pundit being interviewed on the news making the claim on a 40% decrease in compassion and empathy for our college kids. This was the only such study carried out which quotes her exact “40%” decrease claim. I realized how ludicrous the statement was when the words were first spewed from her mouth.

After reading the whopping 15 question survey that is being drawn upon in order to come to this 40% decrease conclusion, I realize how it’s even more ludicrous than I could have imagined.

First of all, the word empathy is mentioned ONCE in the 15 questions. The word compassion is not mentioned at all. The word pity and misfortune are used as a measurement. Several of the questions have little or NO relation to empathy or compassion yet are used as a measurement.

For instance one of the questions is;

“When I see someone being treated unfairly, I sometimes don’t feel very much pity for them.”

A new generation feeling less “pity” for them does not equate to a new generation having less “empathy and compassion”. Perhaps the new generation is MORE empathetic and MORE compassionate because the are feeling LESS pity for them!

What is most disturbing is how pundits and legislators who are attempting to get bills passed through congress, cite these incorrectly analyzed studies and statistics.

The definition of empathy used in the follow up to this questionnaire on “hot to be more empathetic” is below;

“Empathy is the ability to understand others to the point that you can experience their emotions and internal drives.”

Is feeling PITY for another being empathetic or compassionate?

I am now feeling empathetic and compassionate for the team who devised and interpreted this study. I also feel more empathetic and compassionate for the mindless spewing of studies that are pointed to that mean absolutely nothing.

The issues really lie in the lack of critical thinking before we throw up a statistic alongside the pathetic critical thinking that goes into intentionally creating studies with skewed statistics.

JC

Yesterday NPR fired Juan Williams because Williams committed the unpardonable sin of admitting that people boarding flights in “Muslim garb” makes him feel nervous.

Please contemplate the significance of this.

Take a moment and think for yourself the significance of being able to express how YOU feel to others.

Do we want our reporters, politicians, our lovers, our family, and our friends to EXPRESS how they REALLY feel?

Perhaps, if we did, we just might get closer to the root of the many issues that hide behind the” socially correct” facade.

Truth is I feel a little nervous about anyone on a PLANE that isn’t showing their face!

I might feel a little nervous walking through certain parts of Harlem alone after midnight.

I might feel a little nervous walking in Afghanistan alongside the most loving of Muslims.

Wake up America!

Thank God Juan Williams got fired and is helping to WAKE UP AMERICA…

Thank God I can share this with you. Wake up America before HOW YOU FEEL becomes COMPLETELY irrelevant.

Did you know that the word “company” comes from the Latin word “companio” which means companions, a term applied to a group of soldiers who fight together and protect each other.

Do you get a warm fuzzy feeling when you think of the word “company”?

Distribution, infrastructure, accounting, marketing, production, warehousing, insurance, contracts, publicity, media, branding, advertising, lawyers, rent, the list of things to do is truly endless….

I remember the days of having an idea and I created an LLC…
I thought I had a company.
I remember the days of sales and product creation…
I thought I had a company.
I remember the day I hired my first assistant…
I thought I had a company.

In trying to build an “organization” I had an awful lot of disorganization.

Sure, we had sales and revenue and quite a few pissed off people as well. I discovered that some of the people I choose to be part of the company were far from “…a group of soldiers who fight together and protect each other“.

In addition, there were so many “surprises” – a economic recession, a shift from “traditional publishing” to electronic publishing domination – that we had our hands full. We definitely had to learn better ways to communicate with our team and authors and learning that lesson, did help tremendously.

Yes clear, more open, specific, communication can go a very long way.
But, overall, it really is simple….

Your customers want service. PERIOD.

They have their own problems. They are NOT aware you are doing the best you can.
They are NOT aware of your financial deadlines and personal problems that get pushed to the back to serve them
They are NOT aware of the huge learning curve on how to acquire customers and profit.
They are NOT aware of the incredible challenges it takes to build, run, and keep a successful business.

Most company owners have so much to learn. It can become daunting.

The reason why 95% of companies FAIL by year 2 is because most owners do not understand what a company really is…

A company is a culture that provides a specific service.
The list of procedures and measurements that go into building a company are NOT the company. They are tools to BUILD a company.

Yes, it is important to learn all you can to expand and profit with your company.

However, it is much more important to wake up each day and – first and foremost - inspire and build your company of people. It is by over-delivering to each and every person you touch with your company where you have the greatest chances to build a successful company or organization overall.

Listen to your employees. Listen to your customers. Listen to your competition.

Listening to them does NOT mean AGREEING with them. It means understanding them. Understand them well enough to know how to communicate with them in terms of their values.

Is “company” a warmer word to you yet?

If you want to remain in business it better be.

My hat’s off to Oprah for boldly going where few will go. A much needed conversation for a prevalent issue that is too often shunned.

Oprah had Gerald Imes on her show – the brother of Academy-Award-Winning actress Monique (for the movie “Precious” by Sapphire and co-produced by Winfrey).

It’s hard to imagine but the Thank God I… ® series has published several stories of women who had been molested and were able to be a sexual abuse survivor. These were women who were ultimately able to reach the point where were able to say from their hearts, “Thank God I was molested.”

We would love to offer these amazing stories to Oprah and Monique. Perhaps these real life stories will be an inspiration to Monique and help her find some ways that this challenging experience has helped her become such an amazing actress/person?

The writers of these stories were actually able to find how this extraordinary challenge made them sharper, stronger, and more compassionate human beings.

Thank God I… ® author Angelica Osborne who was sexually molested by her paternal grandfather, has since become a film maker, youth director at her church, and a columnist for a gay man’s magazine. In her story, she reveals how her experience helped open her to being able to connect with just about anyone at deep intimate levels and – if given the chance to change her past – she wouldn’t change a thing.

Another Thank God I… ® author JayGrace, a rape victim, started her own radio show assisting woman through their sexual traumas. JayGrayce thanks God for the person she has become as a result of her predicament.

We all get different challenges in life, some a bit more than others. Some of the feats that people overcome are truly amazing. By hearing the triumph of people who have overcome incredible tragedies we all can gain greater hope.

Thank you Oprah for opening up the conversation. It is imperative that we get these stories out. Sexual molestation is real, it happens every day. Everyone of us have the strength to transform the experience. Everyone of us can transcend even the most challenging of circumstances – and even find the blessings in a tragedy. Thank you Oprah for opening the door.
